Highlights
- ▶ Alpine reservoir at 9,400 ft with direct views of the Sawatch 14ers — one of the most scenic developed campgrounds in the state
- ▶ Taylor Canyon Road (paved from Almont) passes through a spectacular granite river gorge en route — the drive is itself an attraction
- ▶ Electric hookups at a USFS campground at altitude; distinct from Maroon Bells (different forest, different mountain range, less crowded)
Planning Notes
County Road 742 paved from Almont to reservoir (~28 mi); final stretch to Lakeview CG is good gravel. Dispersed camping still allowed on CR 742 beyond the reservoir. Dump station on-site. Taylor Park Trading Post has a small store and fuel. Reserve on Recreation.gov; road/campground closes October.
