Highlights

  • The largest boondocking gathering in North America — tens of thousands of self-contained RVs spread across miles of open Sonoran Desert flat outside Quartzsite each winter
  • La Posa LTVA covers a multi-square-mile area with no assigned sites; adjacent BLM free zones allow 14-day stays with zero fees or permits
  • January Quartzsite Sports & RV Show brings gem and mineral shows, swap meets, and RV vendors across the entire town — makes this a destination, not just a stopover

Planning Notes

La Posa LTVA requires a paid annual ($180) or short-term ($40/14-day) permit from the self-pay station at the La Posa North or South entrance off US-95. Immediately adjacent BLM parcels along US-95 and Dome Rock Road allow free dispersed camping (14-day limit) with no permit. No water or hookups anywhere — fully self-contained rigs only. Cell coverage is surprisingly good (T-Mobile and Verizon). Dump station and water fill available in Quartzsite town. From Austin: ~14.5 hrs west on I-10.
