Highlights
- ▶ Ponderosa pine and chaparral at 5,000–7,000 ft above the Prescott basin — 20–25°F cooler than Phoenix in spring and fall
- ▶ Senator Highway (FR 52) south from Prescott provides multiple dispersed pull-offs accessible to smaller trailers; historic Crown King ghost-town saloon at the road's end
- ▶ Prescott's Whiskey Row downtown is 45 min north for full resupply; Lynx Lake developed CG nearby ($18/nt) as a fallback
Planning Notes
Download Prescott NF MVUM before departure. Senator Highway (FR 52) from Prescott south: the paved portion to approximately Mile 8 is easily trailer-accessible. Beyond Mile 8 the road turns unpaved with occasional low-clearance pinch points — limit trailers to 28 ft maximum and proceed slowly. Crown King Road from Mayer (alternative approach) is steeper and more technical — not recommended for trailers. From Austin: ~13 hrs via I-10 W to Phoenix then I-17 N and AZ-69 W to Prescott.
