Highlights

  • Primary trailer-accessible trailhead for the Pecos Wilderness (NM's premier wilderness, 223,667 acres); horse corrals at every site
  • 39 sites at 8,000 ft; paved NM 63 access all the way; Jacks Creek trout fishing
  • Important distinction: Holy Ghost CG and Cowles CG further up the same road are NOT trailer-suitable (narrow canyon road) — Jacks Creek is the end of the road for trailers

Planning Notes

No water currently — bring your own. Vault toilets accessible. No hookups. Popular with horse packers — book well ahead for fall elk season. Pecos (21 mi) for supplies. From Austin: ~8.5 hrs via I-35 N → Santa Fe → NM 63 N.
