Highlights

  • Ancestral Puebloan ruins of the Hopi people — six pueblo sites dating 650–1400 CE, with a 1-mile interpretive trail through Homolovi II (over 1,200 rooms) accessible from camp
  • Route 66 corridor camping at 4,900 ft on the I-40 corridor — Winslow, AZ (La Posada hotel, "Standin' on the Corner" park) is 3 miles west
  • Petrified Forest NP (50 min east on I-40) and Meteor Crater (28 mi west) combine with the ruins for an extraordinary high-desert day-trip triangle

Planning Notes

53 sites; some W/E hookups. Max 50 ft pull-throughs available. Paved AZ-87 access from I-40 Exit 257. The park fills cultural history gap between Flagstaff and Holbrook with no other state park in the I-40 corridor. From Austin: ~13.5 hrs via I-10 W to Phoenix then I-17 N then I-40 E to Exit 257.
