Highlights

▶ Colorado's largest flat-topped wilderness plateau (Flat Tops, 235,000 acres) rising above camp — surreal mesa skyline unlike the jagged peaks anywhere else in the state
▶ Dispersed sites directly along the scenic byway — camp where you find a turnout on the main road
▶ Meeker is a working-ranch town with no tourist veneer; completely different cultural character from ski-country Colorado

Planning Notes

Approach from Meeker on County Road 8 (north, lower elevation, gentler grades) — do NOT approach from Yampa side with a trailer; grades and road width variance make it impractical. Stay on the main byway, never take spur roads with a trailer. Road closed November–June. No cell service throughout. Meeker has fuel and basics; Steamboat Springs (~50 mi) for full resupply.
