- ▶ Free dispersed along the base of Comb Ridge — an 80-mile sandstone monocline wall that marks the eastern edge of Bears Ears, one of the most dramatic geological fences in the Southwest
- ▶ Anasazi cliff dwellings and the Procession Panel petroglyphs accessible by short walks from camp without any permit or fee
- ▶ One of the least-discovered dispersed zones in the Bears Ears orbit — Valley of the Gods draws the photographers; Comb Wash stays empty
Planning Notes
Graded main Comb Wash Road supports trailers to ~26 ft; interior crossings beyond the wash require 4WD — stay on the main road for trailer use. Vault toilets at some pull-outs; no water. Watch for soft sand after rain. Bluff (14 mi east on US-163) has fuel, a diner, and a trading post. From Austin: ~13.8 hrs via US-285 N to US-491 N to US-163 W.
