Highlights

  • Closest quality dispersed camping to the Denver metro area — 50 miles from I-25; ideal for a Thursday-night escape before peak Colorado season
  • South Fork South Platte River corridor; Colorado Trail and Buffalo Creek MTB system (top-10 mountain bike area) from camp
  • Covers the Front Range south of Denver — different population corridor from all existing CO entries

Planning Notes

Forest Road 550 is maintained dirt with large flat pull-throughs explicitly noted as easy for trailers. Stage 1 fire restrictions in effect most of April–July — gas stoves only during fire season. Sites clearly marked with signs on FR 550. Pine, CO has a gas station and basic store; fills on summer weekends — arrive Thursday or Friday.
