Highlights
- ▶ NM's oldest state park — a chain of 9 karst sinkhole lakes (former cave roofs collapsed into pools) unlike anything else in the database
- ▶ Swimming beach at Lea Lake (only lake in the chain with swimming); excellent birding and scuba diving with permit
- ▶ Fills the Roswell/Chaves County gap — nearest current entry is Brantley Lake near Carlsbad, 70 mi south
Planning Notes
Very popular with Roswell locals on summer weekends — arrive Friday or reserve in advance. Main RV hookup area is Lea Lake campground. 12 mi east of Roswell on US-380 E. From Austin: ~7.2 hrs via I-20 W to Midland then US-285 N through Pecos and Carlsbad.
