Highlights

  • One of the most remote and least-crowded state parks in Arizona — 38 miles of paved/improved road deliver true solitude on a large Sonoran Desert reservoir in the Bill Williams River drainage
  • Outstanding bass, catfish, and crappie fishing; largest wintering concentration of bald eagles in Arizona (January–February peak)
  • Bighorn sheep, feral burros, and high raptor diversity throughout the surrounding desert hills — genuine wilderness state park character

Planning Notes

Drive 38 miles north on Alamo Road from Wenden (on US-60) — the road is paved most of the way and passable in 2WD. Dump station and potable water available at the park. No services for 38 miles once off US-60. From Austin: ~14 hrs via I-10 W to Phoenix then US-60 W through Wickenburg to Wenden.
