- ▶ Riparian canyon plateau north of Phoenix with over 450 late pre-Columbian Puebloan ruins — the highest concentration of ancient sites accessible by trailer in central Arizona
- ▶ BLM dispersed camping in high desert chaparral at 3,500–5,000 ft; dramatically cooler than the Phoenix valley floor
- ▶ Perry Mesa plateau (accessible via Bloody Basin Road area) has the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan room blocks in the region
Planning Notes
Access via AZ-69 north from Cordes Junction (I-17 Exit 262) toward Mayer. BLM dispersed sites along the access roads to the plateau. Download BLM Hassayampa Field Office map before departure. 28-ft practical trailer limit on most approach roads. No water or facilities; self-contained rigs only. From Austin: ~12.5 hrs via I-10 W to Phoenix then I-17 N to AZ-69 E.
